Rumormill: Honda CR-Z Gas Turbo Coming

Honda's product development team might just be working on another variant of this eco-minded car - an all gas turbocharged model! The British publication Autocar claims to have insider information on a Si-like CR-Z model in the works. According to them, the gas-only CR-Z might be using a 1.6-liter I-4 engine, and will be offered in both a 160HP and 200HP version. They go on to say Honda plans to officially announce it at the Tokyo Motor Show in October.

As expected, Honda Public Relations are being tight-lipped about this, and have issued the equivalent of a "no comment in regard to this rumor. But speculation still exists that the Honda Performance Development Team is working on a number of ways to add even more boost to the world's first sports hybrid.

Exciting news, because as cool as the CR-Zalready is, there are plenty of us that would love to see a gas variant of it to replace history's most excellent CR-Z. The fact that so many have voiced an interest in buying something like this makes this rumor all the more believable. The attached video shows two absolutely true gas variants of the CR-Z Honda put together as a "race concept" for an SCCA event in late 2010. If our luck and desire holds out, we may be seeing mass production all-gas CR-Zs similar to these two soon enough! Our prestigious South Floridian tuner population would certainly be all over this idea...
