The Power of Dreams in Advertising

"Half way in to Mad Men's season 4, Honda became a potential client, as have many household names in the 1960's based drama. What caused many views pause was the slight at Honda's car manufacturing. That's right, in the early 60's Honda was know almost exclusively for their production of motorcycles.

The debonair executives at Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce ingnited a spark in our interest of Honda advertising- the brand didn't get to the top on it's own (although mostly!). So off on our quest to uncover the relics of Honda advertising we went. Here's what we found:

The company began one of its most significant advertising campaigns with Grey Advertising at the helm. And so was developed..

1973 "You meet the nicest people on a Honda

The campaign depicted unlikely riders on a Honda motorcycle. To push the bar up even higher and boundaries even further, executives at Grey proposed a $300,000 television campaign during the Academy Awards. This made Honda the first foreign corporation to sponsor the Academy Awards.
