The 2010 Honda Clarity FCX, which was built to beat the Toyota Prius at its own game, does just that. The Clarity is an electric car that uses a fuel cell to combine hydrogen with oxygen to make the electricity necessary to propel the Clarity. The Honda Clarity does this in a very efficient manner, and of course, not a single drop of gasoline is consumed to do it. The Clarity delivers real-world performance, and there is surprisingly little difference between driving it and a gas-powered vehicle, outside of a pleasant electric hum replacing the growl of a gas engine. It's modernized interior is both futuristic and familiar, while a great sound system and attractive exterior round out this unique car.
Travel distance is similar to a gas-powered car, allowing for a 270-mile range before needing to refuel. Performance is on par with a 2.4 liter engine, which means the Clarity is very much like an Accord in terms of performance. It keeps perfect pace with traffic, handles curves admirably and delivers effortless power and acceleration. And though the Clarity uses no gas, in terms of the price to power it, you can expect to get the equivalent of 68 miles of travel for the price you are now paying for of one gallon of gas. Impressive. The future of alternative fuels has at last arrived in the auto industry, and Honda is betting they will be its leader. One look at the 2010 Honda FCX Clarity and its incredible real world performance, and we have reason to believe that, as well.
