All three testers will receive their own Fit EV this month and will be testing in the first half of 2011. They are all tasked with subjecting the vehicles to daily use, as well as evaluate the specific infrastructure issues that must be addressed with the introduction of electric vehicles.
“The goal of the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program is to more fully understand the challenges and opportunities associated with such a fundamental shift in technology,” said Tetsuo Iwamura, American Honda Motor Co, Inc., President and CEO. “The city of Torrance and the other participants will play a key role, by providing real-world feedback on their experience. They will help us tackle the important issues surrounding customer adoption of electric vehicles.”
For Torrance, they will be used in several of the city's departments, including the Community Development Department, Economic Development Office and Public Works Office. At this early moment, everything is going brilliantly, and they are on schedule for a 2012 worldwide release of this innovative, revolutionary vehicle.
South Motors is very excited about the introduction of this new technology, which will help America wean itself off the dependency of foreign petrol. The Fit EV is powered by a lithium-ion battery and coaxial electric motor. It delivers excellent efficiency and power while remaining nearly silent, even at high speeds. With a top speed of 90 MPH and an incredible range, the Fit EV can be recharged in less than 12 hours using a conventional wall socket.
For South Floridians, this means efficient, on-demand transportation at a fraction of the cost of powering a conventional gas vehicle. Quiet, affordable and versatile, the Fit EV should prove a stylish, sensible addition to our South Florida lifestyle.
