The sporty hybrid’s performance numbers have not yet been released, but we do know it was custom-outfitted to achieve higher output and torque and may have even enhanced fuel economy and reduced emissions.
Mugen Euro, which developed the 238-horsepower Civic Type R Mugen in 2009 for Honda U.K., said its newly tuned CR-Z will deliver "Type R-like performance," thanks in part to aftermarket brakes and suspension. To reduce weight, Mugen fitted the CR-Z with alloy rims and a carbon-fiber hood. Additional aerodynamics were fitted to improve airflow.
We wanted to extend the performance of the CR-Z," said Hiro Toyoda of Mugen Euro. "It is already a fun car to drive, with an excellent chassis, but we thought that with more power and enhanced torque delivery it could be even more exciting. However, as with all Mugen projects, we have stayed true to the Honda design and philosophy, and the electric motor is still a vital ingredient to boost performance and economy.
No news so far on whether any of these modifications will make it to a mass-produced CR-Z yet, but we can dream, can’t we? With the gasoline variant of the CR-Z coming soon, I doubt we have seen what the aftermarket enthusiasts can achieve with this remarkable Honda. Stay tuned for the latest info on the CR-Z and the full line of Honda vehicles.
